Saturday, December 10 was Help-Portrait day all around the world. This year Help-Portrait events were held on 56 countries and all 50 US states.
This was my second year getting involved and I’m sure that I took more from it that I could ever give. It all hit me during one of the afternoon sessions, when a mother was seeing her two kids posing for their portraits. It was one of the longest sessions I saw, I think the photographer got close to 200 shots in total. The mom was a bit impressed (like me) to see how many shots the photographer was taking and she asked me how many prints they’d get. I told her she’d get a 8x10 and two 4x6 prints, but that they’ll also get a CD with the best images. And when I said that she said “We get all these pictures? This is priceless!” with her eyes in tears.
All subjects got hair and make-up done for their portrait, and there was food. At the Fayetteville, AR site we had 10 photographers working, several hair and make-up artists, photo editors, photo assistants, ambassadors, interpreters, and do-whatever-needed folks. A great group of individuals. Best way to spend a Saturday.
