This is not a photograph of a moment.

In my most recent escapade to the West, my film got stuck in a frame. I must have taken 30 shots on that one frame, maybe more.

I forgot what I tried to capture. Where I was. What I felt. Who was with me.

This one photograph holds time and a few stories of loved ones, strangers, city lights, country roads, the ocean, and maybe one of my reflections.

It is all together, unrecognizable. Beautiful.

Film, color negative and color slides. A lot of cross processing, double and multiple exposures, early hikes, drives, and sunsets. Cold and warm sand. California has my heart. Meetings, museums, family, friends, and Las Dos Fridas.

My California film preview.

I love California and I love film. It’s only natural that the outcome is so magical. I only had time to barely look through the photos, but so far, I’m in love. My wonderful journey of discovering the beauty of film has been going for a year. It’s been a bit pricey, but hey… I don’t have a shoe problem, so it’s all good. I am so in love, SO IN LOVE with this medium. Now I just have to keep trying to convince a friend to teach me how to develop my own black/white film (I saved my CA b/w rolls for it!)… I have the feeling my mind will be blown.

Sunrise at Pt Mugu. While in California last week, Sandy and I went on a mini sunrise hike. We ended up at Pt Mugu just when the sunlight started to cascade over the mountains. What a wonder! She took this photo of me taking photos.

Last week, I helped out at the first Cesar Chavez Commemoration Dinner in Northwest Arkansas. It was a lot of work, but when you have a wonderful group of people working together, it always turns out to be fantastic. I was able to get a few photos of the volunteers (in between mixing masa, checking the chicken, and cleaning chiles for the mole). Here’s the full set (it’s a growing set.. more photos of the event to come).
